Lake Alice Association, Inc: Lake Alice Stewardship Program - Characterizing The Extent Of Clp: Lake Alice Association is sponsoring an AIRR project which will focus on surveying and mapping CLP for 3 years to determine how much CLP exists and assess annual differences in the CLP population in Lake Alice. Management alternatives, if necessary, will be explored once the surveying and mapping is completed and would be part of this project.

Project activities include: 1) Surveying and mapping of CLP (early June) during 2011-13; 2) Pre-treatment survey conducted a week or less prior to any management; 3) Any necessary management; 4) Post-treatment survey the following spring after management; 5) Develop annual report.

As stated in the Lake Alice Association Adaptive management Plan (2009), the primary goal is to maintain a healthy lake ecosystem. EWM was discovered in July of 2014.

Project goals include: 1) Conduct initial reconnaissance to locate and document EWM in the vicinity of the original find (completed in 2014); 2) Survey the entire Lake Alice for EWM (completed in 2014); 3) Hand-pull EWM from the identified sites (completed in 2014); 4) Conduct early spring recon of known sites in 2015 and 2016; 5) Hand-pull EWM plants in 2015 and 2016; 6) Conduct 2015 meander search for EWM in Lake Alice; 7) Conduct a PI aquatic plant survey and compare with data from 2010 PI survey.; 8) Update the Aquatic Plant Management Plan (APMP); 9) Conduct a plant workshop for Lake Alice stewards.

Big Bearskin Lake Association: Res-Big Bearskin Lake Improvement Program: The Big Bearskin Lake Association will conduct a lake water quality improvement program with the goal of increasing water clarity and resulting sechi disc readings This project will use barley straw to inhibit blue-green algae growth in the lake. Anticipated results include improvement in water transparency and aquatic plant growth and distribution through out the lake.

Specific activities of this project include the installation of the straw bales, water quality monitoring, and aquatic plant survey, and development of a final report.

City Of Rhinelander: Acq-Hanson Lake Land Acquisition: City of Rhinelander will acquire ~16 acres of land with 428.65 feet of frontage on Hanson Lake. The acquisition will help protect the lake from some current shoreland erosion. Friends Of Lake Mohawksin: Hlr - Lake Mohawksin Native Plantings: Partnering with property owners, the Friends of Lake Mohawksin is sponsoring a grant to implement best practices from Wisconsin\2019s 2019 Healthy Lakes & Rivers Action Plan. Best practices, including fish sticks, 350 sq. ft. native plantings, diversions, rock infiltration, and/or rain gardens, will be designed and installed according to program fact sheets, technical guidance and the grant application.
All funded best practices require contracts that must remain in place for 10 years and include the minimum operation and maintenance requirements described in the special conditions at the end of this agreement. If the landowner is the grant sponsor this Lake Protection Grant Agreement serves as the contract. If the best practice(s) will be implemented on land other than the sponsor\2019s, a contract between the sponsor and landowner describing the 10-year contract period, minimum operation and maintenance details, and data to be collected is required. The Department may perform site inspections and/or monitoring to ensure project success.
Deliverables include: a project summary including data requirements, pre/post photographs, and confirmation of completed design work and landowner contracts. A Healthy Lakes & Rivers Example Report is available to assist you.
Special conditions: Project management and technical assistance cash costs cannot exceed 10% of the state share of the grant award; this does not include implementation labor. Water regulation and/or county zoning permits must be issued before construction. Projects required for regulatory compliance purposes, including shoreland mitigation projects, are not eligible for reimbursement. The Healthy Lakes & Rivers logo should be used for promotion and publicity and DNR recognized as a funding source.
The grantee may request a one-time cost amendment and a one-time time extension. The grantee must notify the department if they wish to add or subtract practices to the scope of this grant agreement.

Pickerel/Crane Lake Prot & Rehab District: Res-Pickerell Lake Aeration System: The project will install an aeration system, monitor Dissolved Oxygen throughout the winter, and provide education on sources of nutrient loading into Pickerel Lake. The project will also include an education effort for safety of open water and sources of the problem which have lead to the need for lake aeration.

All required permits will be received prior to equipment installation.

Squash Lake Assoc: Hlk-Squash Lake Healthy Lakes Initiative: Squash Lake Association will implement best practices described in Wisconsin\2019s 2014-2017 Healthy Lakes Implementation Plan. Practices include: fish sticks on 1 property and a 350 ft2 native planting, rain garden, and rock infiltration practice on 1 property.

The best practices require a contract to remain in effect for 10 years and must include minimum operation and maintenance requirements and data collection as described in grant condition #17. If best practice(s) are implemented on land owned by the grant Sponsor, this Lake Protection Grant Agreement serves as the contract. If best practice(s) are implemented on land other than the sponsor\2019s, a contract between the sponsor and landowner that abides by grant condition #17 is required.

The Department may require re-payment of project installation costs if the best practice is disturbed or removed. The Sponsor and/or the Department may perform site inspections and/or monitoring to ensure project success.

Lake Julia Association: Aquatic Plant Community Characterization & Management Plan: The Lake Julia Lake Association will sponsor a project to complete an aquatic plant survey and protection plan. The project will result in the expansion of a GIS database for Lake Julia, a map of the aquatic plants, a written report of the findings and discussion of the management strategies to sustain the ecosystem, voucher specimens will be created, reviewed by DNR staff and housed at Nicolet College, a photo archive of plants will be kept, and a review of the education values of the project will be included. All final products will be provided to the Department in electronic (pdf) and hard copy format.

Lake Julia Association: Understanding The Aquatic Food Web Of Lake Julia: The Lake Julia Lake Association will sponosor a project which is the third phase of an assessment and education project on Lake Julia in partnership with Nicolet Technical College. This project will focus on macroinvertebrate animals and small fishes that live in Lake Julia. An assessment of species and populations will be completed to establish baseline data to be entered into a GIS database. The project will result in a report that describes the animal community and lays out management actions to sustain or improve these areas, updated GIS data layers, and an educational seminar to cover the work in the first three phases of the project. This seminar would be for both Nicolet students and lake residents.

All final products will be provided to the Department in electronic (pdf) and hard copy format.
